The gateway to Paradise imagine Montchavin as it was long ago when the village consisted of a few humble houses and where the people lived primarily from local agriculture. Times were hard and by the 70's there were only a dozen people left in the village so the Mayor, Auguste Mudry, realising that something had to be done to stop the exodus, undertook a project of improvements and renovation of the village. 40 years on Montchavin-Les Coches (which lies on the edge of thick forest) is a bustling, charming village with cobbled streets and traditional stone and slate houses and it is home to the unique Vanoise Express cablecar, built in 2003, which opens up the entire Paradiski area.
